The Texas Mile 3/2013

Went to Beeville, Texas to watch The Texas Mile. It is held at the old Chase Naval Air Station in Beeville. Got there Friday afternoon. Checked into my room at the Motel 6. Made my way over to the event around 2pm. Took a lot of pictures of the vehicles that were running the mile. The run is 1 mile for your qualifying. Then you have a 1/2 mile to shut down. Had several that made it to the 200mph club. This is a sanctioned Land Speed Record event. One made a record pass of 267.8 mph. this was the fastest of the weekend. It was Ford GT that was a Hennessey Motor sports car. If you ever get a chance to watch it don't miss it.

July 14th I started a vacation to Lake of the Woods. Close to Klamath Lake, Oregon. When I left San Marcos, Texas I headed to Plainview, Tx for my 1st layover. Left early the 15th headed west on IH 40 to Holbrook, Az. my next stop. On monday the 16th headed towards Flagstaff. At Flagstaff decided to see what was so good about the Grand Canyon. Headed towards the Canyon. Made it early afternoon for a few photos. I went back south to Williams, Az. From Williams made it to Needles, Ca. 118 degrees with 40 mph gust. I was miserable from the heat. Found a dump for a motel. If you are ever in Needles DON'T stay at the Knights Inn..... Got up early trying to beat the heat in the Mojave Desert. Headed towards Tehachapi Pass. Made it San Jose, Ca. Stayed at my sisters house for 2 nights. Thursday morning loaded up for Lake of the Woods, Oregon. It took all day to get there. Stayed there for the next 4 days for a family reunion. When I left the following Monday headed towards Reno Nevada. Went thru Mt. Lassen NP to Susanville. Didn't relize how hot it was in the Sierrra Nevadas. Made it to Fallon Nevada for the evening. Woke to a beautiful morning heaeded east towards Utah. 660 miles later found a room in Green River, Utah. That was a long day in the saddle. Next morning was off to Colorado Springs to visit my brother. After my visit headed towards Kansas to Oklahoma for a layover at Wagoner Ok. Stayed the weekend at my inlaws house on Ft. Gibson lake. When I left Oklahoma it was 110 degrees. What a miserable ride to Texas.
